"Ruaridh is not only a master craftsman with a well deserved reputation for carrying out work to the highest standards, he is also an excellent teacher who is willing to pass his knowledge and skills on to others - including those who many in his position might consider commercial competition.

In this connection, Ruaridh recent instructed a course concerning the Conservation, Repair and Maintenance of Traditional Windows, presented by The Scottish Traditional Skills Training Centre, of which I am the Project Director. The hands-on training provided by the course involved students removing and restoring sash and case windows in the historic steading buildings at The National Trust for Scotland's Fyvie Castle in Aberdeenshire. Amongst those who attended the course were the Chief Executive and Regional Director of a leading Scottish construction company, specialising in building, conservation and repair work. Like me, they were greatly impressed by the quality of Ruaridh's work, as well his ability to impart the knowledge and skills he possesses on to other.

During the past 25 years I have been involved in a wide range of building conservation and restoration projects throughout the UK and beyond, as a result of which I have had the privilege of working closely with a number of our finest traditional skills practitioners - amongst which I would include Ruaridh MacAlister."

"A few weeks ago I contacted you regarding repairs to a roller shutter door at a listed building in Cockburn Street.

You referred me to Ruaridh MacAlister whom you referred to as an "Imaginative Tradesman".

When I contacted Ruaridh, he arrived promptly the next day and was confident he would be able to carry out the repairs. After consulting many other repair men who for various reasons were unwilling to tackle the job, Ruaridh was a rare find. A pleasantly refreshing surprise with his realistic "no problem" attitude.

He came again the following day with his apprentice and they removed the shutter to take it to his workshop. He even called us regularly to report on his progress assuring us all was well and that he would have it back to us as soon as possible.

Within less than a week, he returned with the shutter which he had expertly restored and refitted it for us.

The work was completed in good time, the price we paid for the work was reasonable, and the result was a happy satisfied customer. We would like to thank you for recommending him on every front and we wish him a flourishing future business."
